I left Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport in Montreal around 10:45 pm for a direct flight on Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca. It was a big 787 and the seat next to me was empty. That was a nice surprise as I was told the flight was full. Having that seat next to me available for ‘stuff’ comes in handy. Royal Air Maroc treats their passengers well. Economy class folks were presented with two meals (not great but good enough), pillow, blanket, socks, and eyeshades. The entertainment system in the seats in front of us was great. Good sound and good selection. I watched a movie (Gifted) and listened to music. I slept on and off throughout the flight.

We landed in Casablanca around 9:10 am. It was a quick stop there as I barely had enough time to figure out which coloured line to follow on the floor to my next flight. Boarded a bus to my next flight to Agadir. The flight to Agadir was only about 45 minutes and we arrived before we knew it, maybe I slept a bit. The weather was warm and sunny as we walked from the plane to the terminal. Walking on the tarmac is new to me. Guards carrying automatic weapons too I suppose.

The first hiccup of the trip was that my transfer driver wasn’t waiting for me. A call to the tour company sorted that out and I was on my way to the hotel. The 30-minute drive was interesting and reminded me of an episode from Don’t Drive Here. Few rules are obeyed. Fun!

Check-in at the Hotel Aferni went smooth, and I had my room for the next three nights.

I spent the rest of the day walking around the neighbourhood and the beach. The beach is huge and has a great boardwalk. I purchased a SIM card for my phone that comes with a local phone number and 11 GBs of data. 11 GBs!!! All for about $25. Hard to believe when you compared Canadian cell prices.

I took my sister Jen’s advice to avoid sleeping until later in the night to avoid being jet-lagged.

Had a good pizza for dinner at a place next to the hotel.
